Comparing table structures.

Hi all,

Could anyone let me know if there are any Scripts available for comparing the schema differences between two SQL server databases?

Thanks

DBAnalyst

I once made a script for that, feel free to contact me if I should send it over.

Comparing table structures between databases

Unfortunatly no there isn't an easy way.
If you have connection to the internet log on to the site
http://www.adeptsql.com/download.htm and download AdeptSQL
Diff ver 1.6.
We have used that for all our server and works very well.
N.B. You can program it yourself in SQL but will take a
bit of time, and this will hi-light every difference.

What is the easiest way to compare the table structure of two databases?
I have inherited a project and have found a couple of undocumented
inconsistencies between the development and production databases.

Is there any tool to compare table structures between two databases?
For example: When comparing Table_A and Table_B, which fields are
missing, which relations are missing, etc.

Comparing database structures

I'm trying to evaluate the RedGate SQLCompare tool and it did a nice
comparison between an up-to-date version and an older version of the same
database. However, when I try to synchronize, it synchronizes the normal
tables, then I get a message:
The following error message was returned from the SQL Server:
[208] Invalid object name 'dbo.MSmerge_contents'.
The following SQL command caused the error:
create view [MSmerge_contents_Products] as select * from
dbo.MSmerge_contents where (tablenick = 4976004 and rowguid in
(select rowguid from [Products]))
I have limited familiarity with the MSmerge_contents tables, but if I recall
correctly, those are tables used during replication. I've done no
replication on either of these datatabases, although it is possible that one
or the other was derived from a database that had been replicated at one
time. To make a long story short, both of these being non-replicated
databases, any problems just dropping those tables?
1) Can't you have SQLCompare ignore system objects when doing a comparison?
2) Check out ApexSQL's Diff product. Or if you want to pay a lot of money
or have cross-platform needs, check out Embarcadero's Change Manager.

Compare data difference between two database in SQLServer 2005

Hi,
I have too databases, their structures are completely same, with minor data
difference, I want to generate a patch SQL statements, not complete backup
by comparing them, thus I can synchronzie the out-dated database with that
script. Does SQLServer2005 provide thus functionality? Or there is other
tool I can use. Thank you
zlf
You can do it yourself if you link the servers, but it may take a good
amount of work. Easier might be to use a third party tool. Red-Gate's SQL
Data Compare is probably the most obvious choice...

Hi Zif,
another great choice is xSQL Softwares xSQL Data Compare which you can
get from http://www.xsqlsoftware.com - you don't just get 2 weeks of
free trial but you also have it free forever for smaller size
databases (up to a certain number of objects) as well as free with no
limitations for SQL Server Express databases.
Furthermore, we have a well document api (xSQL SDK) that allows you to
integrate the functionality in your own application if you want.
Hope this helps.

Hi Zif,
another great choice is xSQL Softwares xSQL Data Compare which you can
get from http://www.xsqlsoftware.com - you don't just get 2 weeks of
free trial but you also have it free forever for smaller size
databases (up to a certain number of objects) as well as free with no
limitations for SQL Server Express databases.
Furthermore, we have a well document api (xSQL SDK) that allows you to
integrate the functionality in your own application if you want.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
JC

Compare data difference between two database in SQLServer 2005

Hi,
I have too databases, their structures are completely same, with minor data
difference, I want to generate a patch SQL statements, not complete backup
by comparing them, thus I can synchronzie the out-dated database with that
script. Does SQLServer2005 provide thus functionality? Or there is other
tool I can use. Thank you
